A tilt EQ is a filter that simultaneously boosts one end of the frequency spectrum while attenuating the other end. As it turns out this is an amazingly useful tool for brightening or darkening your tracks very quickly. Another reason this is super handy is that it allows you to change the tone of your track without changing the overall level. With traditional EQ plugins, as you boost certain frequencies, the overall sound gets louder. The problem with this is that our brains have the screwy little feature where louder music tends to sound better (even if it actually sounds worse. Make sense?). A tilt EQ works around that special feature in our brain so that you aren’t deceived by the changing level and you can know instantly if your are improving or worsening your sound.
SEQ-S gives you powerful sonic sculpting and EQ matching up to 7.1, with stereo mid-side operation and automated spectrum analysis. We’ve all had the experience of mixing a kick drum that just didn’t have quite the oomph it needed. You can try EQing it, but that just seems to make it flabby and loose. Sometimes you need a little extra beef that you just can’t extract out of the kick drum itself. You can replace it with samples, but sometimes that alters the sound too much. Little Foot lets you add anything from subtle to extreme low end to your kick drum without compromising the original sound. It does this by triggering a low frequency sine wave that plays along with your original kick drum. You can control how deep and how hard this sine wave triggers, and how long it sustains. You can even “tune” your kick drum to match the key of the song. With Little Foot, we focused on an interface that lets you dial in your sound as quickly as possible without having to worry about a pile of other features. If a million features is what you want, Sasquatch will probably be your answer.
BDL have produced some very interesting free plug-ins, first we had the Bark of Dog plug-in which is a free Voice Of God type of plug-in, and then more recently they brought us Panipulator, a very useful plug-in for handling routing issues in stereo tracks and checking stereo mixes. Now they have brought out another interesting plug-in which has a working title of Tilty Wility. This is what they say about it… Tilty Wilty is a tilt EQ, which is a great tool for quickly adjusting the brightness/darkness of your tracks. It uses a special filter that does not have any of the wonky side effects to your high end that most digital filters have. No matter what sample rate you are using, Tilty Wilty will give you a smooth natural curve right up to Nyquist frequency. You may be wondering why this plug-in has such a dumb name and ugly interface. This is by design, we are working on a bigger better version, but we wanted to get this into your hands now.
