Vocaloid software users type in words and assign melodies to Sweet Ann. She then emulates the words and notes given to her. Expressive effects, vibrato and dynamics can also be added to her singing. Users compose using Sweet Ann as their demo vocalist, and even create and experiment with new musical styles, from remixes, vocal fx, and DJ scratch vocals, to jazz, pop, funky house music and electronica genres, all with the benefit of Sweet Ann as their virtual vocalist.

RadioSure allows users to tune into radio stations from around the globe and even record their favorite programs. With a simple interface and excellent performance, this was a surprising and fun download. The program’s interface is incredibly simple, though possibly overwhelming at first. All 32,400 of the radio stations are listed, with a traditional media player layout at the bottom. While we would have liked to see better ways to filter the stations, the search menu did a great job of narrowing our queries to specific programs, stations, and cities we were looking for.
The program does not offer a Help file, but we found it intuitive enough that any level of user should be able to get the hang of the radio. Radio stations were categorized by style of programming, call numbers, city, and language. Magnetola is the first sensory-friendly music player that can play tracks either unaltered or, for more sensitive ears, slightly “softened”. The player is stylized as a vintage compact cassette player. The softener filter can smoothen the rough edges of individual instruments, such as the drums or electric guitars, as well as it can follow the overall dynamic of the song and suppress sudden “big” attacks (think the beginning of Pink Floyd’s The Wall). The player also features sliders for adjusting highs and lows (that’s shelving filters in technical language). You can either boost or cut off high and low frequencies to your liking; we call these parameters “silk” and “wool” respectively.
