To capture the fusion of raw acoustic energy and electronic weight that defines modern drum & bass, this EZX for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3 brings together two deeply rooted names from the genre and the wider UK dance scene: drummer Andy Gangadeen and producer, mixer, engineer and DJ Peter “Erb N Dub” Chapman. From performances alongside icons like James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan to work with acts such as Massive Attack, Rudimental, Chase & Status and Fatboy Slim, their combined experience spans decades of music shaped by rhythm, movement and hard-hitting drums. This EZX includes four acoustic kits alongside a collection of electronic drum machine sounds, percussion and effects – all tailored for modern drum & bass production. Inspired by iconic breakbeats like the legendary “Amen Break,” it aims not only to capture the laser-sharp precision of modern drum & bass, but also the raw character of the recordings that helped shape it. To bridge the gap between modern and vintage production, the sessions combined an SSL desk with a vintage Decca valve console, with many microphones driven through the Decca preamps for warm saturation and natural compression. To further evoke the feel of classic breakbeat recordings, a dedicated horn mic spill channel was incorporated.

In total, it includes four unique kits, one extra recorded kit configuration as well as several additional snares – all handpicked to ensure a width of tones that ranges from the rich, dark and boomy to the ringy, tight and snappy. To add, the kits were captured at a private high-end studio in the Los Angeles area boasting a massive-sounding but still not overpowering room, making it the perfect choice for loud rock drums that sound thunderously big but not drowned out by excessive ambience.

15 individual instruments, all captured from the classic Mellotron keyboard heard on hits by anything from the Beatles to the Moody Blues and King Crimson. EZkeys Mellotoon is based on the Mellotron keyboard introduced in the early 1960s. This unique instrument was the first of its kind to include samples of real instruments, but as opposed to the modern-day digital sampler, the Mellotron pulled them off a magnetic tape loop that ran inside the keyboard. It came with various sounds for piano, strings, flutes, brass and is likely best described as the first-ever “band in a box”. Naturally, it was a revelation from the get-go. Early adopters included the Beatles, the Moody Blues and King Crimson, who all immortalized the unmistakable tone of the Mellotron in numerous hits. Today, this piece of instrument history is enjoying a massive resurgence in a wide range of genres. EZkeys Mellotoon captures the essence of this one-of-a-kind keyboard and comes with 15 individual instruments, carefully sampled directly from a model M400 Mellotron using a blend of direct and amped signals.
