DNA sample line is a new sample series aimed at sound designers, vintage synth enthusiasts and any producer looking for authentic vintage synth sounds on a budget. First up for the DNA series is the incredible Korg MonoPoly first launched in 1981, it was one of the last 100% analogue synths to hit the market and is very much a pro synth. It has all the features you would expect to find on a large modular system including 4 very fat VCO’s which can be shared in 4 voice Polyphonic mode or linked in Unison for a versatile monophonic lead. Each VCO has its own level, tune, and waveform type control. Waveforms include triangle, saw, pulse-width, and pulse-width modulated. It has a great sounding filter section as well as 2 envelope generators (one for the oscillators and one for the filter).

Yamaha RX5 KONTAKT

Welcome to the 80s! In 1986, the RX5 was the jewel in the crown of Yamaha’s lineup of digital drum machines. It featured a seriously impressive feature set, comprising 24 onboard sounds spread across two kits – one acoustic, one electronic – plus detailed programmability, sample reverse, expansion via cartridge, and individual outputs for most of the kit pieces. It was a serious, powerful bit of kit with a thick and punchy sound (courtesy of those 12-bit samples) and some nice attention to detail: the sounds could be tailored with basic envelopes, and there were two Accent levels available to allow more humanised programming. The samples were longer and more detailed than on more basic machines of the era – quality issues that set it apart from units like the Casio RZ1 (with its quarter-second samples). The RX5 made its mark on some classic tracks, like Prince’s Sign o the Times, Madonna’s La Isla Bonita, Cameo’s Word Up and a whole load of songs by the Pet Shop Boys. If the 80s is your thing, the RX5 is a bit of an essential. In many ways this was Yamaha’s defining accompaniment to the DX7 synth, with the same style of D-to-A conversion and a similarly unmistakable 80s tone. While the sounds were samples, they were far from naturalistic, tending more towards the über-punchy ‘turn it up to eleven’ sound that defined a pop generation.

Binaural Piano KONTAKT

Binaural Piano Using a carefully planned and detailed setup, we immortalized the sound of a renowned German Grand, through the ears of a binaural dummy. The Concept Binaural Piano is a truly inspiring virtual instrument, suitable for every task, from Classical mock-ups to Film scoring, trailers and Pop productions. As always, we aimed to get as close to the real thing as possible, so we captured the Sympathetic Resonances of every possible key combination, summing up to the huge amount of 7.744 samples just for the Resonances themselves. We did the same for the Sustain Pedal resonances and the Release samples, plus we recorded the Hammer noises in isolation, to be used either as an effect or as an additional percussive layer.
