In this Serato Studio video course you’ll learn all about the incredible features like stem separation, audio manipulation, and more that make creating beats quick, intuitive, and easy. Larry will take you through all the various components of this DAW and illustrate their function with many musical examples so you’ll be ready to get started right away. These Serato Studio videos are designed for new Serato Studio users. Larry begins with a brief overview of the interface so you’ll know how everything is laid out before getting into the details. Then you’ll learn about the Application and Project toolbars, which are used to control various aspects of your session like quantization, bouncing, key, tempo, etc. It’s on to the Sample Deck after that, which is used to play back cues with pads or a MIDI keyboard, slice them, manipulate them (reverse, attack/release settings, etc.), and more.

    The dirty little secret of the music industry today is that most high-level producers are relying on samples when creating their tracks in some capacity. Whether they’re sampling their melody and harmonic tracks, or something as simple as a bass riff, most modern music (especially in pop, R&B, and EDM) rely on samples in some way. Because of this, an entire sample industry has emerged to support the growing demand. More producers needing more samples means that industry composers need to create more melodies and harmonies for us to use in our tracks. But is there a problem with that? And is it possible to be truly creative if you’re relying on a melodic sample? While most working producers see no issue working samples into their tracks, new producers can find it hard to walk the ethical line and know exactly what is and isn’t ok, and that’s where I come in!

    In this class I will show you the basics of looping using Ableton and the Push 2 Controller. By the end of the class we will have put together our first (very basic loop) and gone over key concepts which we will continue to grow in the upcoming courses. While we are using Ableton for this course, we will not be focusing on mixing or creating a finished tracks, but on the tools that we need in order to live loop, whether that’s on stage or on a live stream. To get the most out of this class, you should have a copy of Ableton (even the free trial is fine) as well as the Push 2, but you can also use this video to decide if looping on the Push 2 is something that you’d like to explore in the future and to get an idea of what goes into live looping.
