Thor Source is adequately emulating a well known classic from Moog: the Source. Thor’s modular design gave us the chance to rebuild the Source’s details with great accuracy. Then we copied our favorite Source patches with great ease into Thor and after this we managed to take those sounds numerous steps further. The sounding results however stayed amazingly close to the Source’s character. In this ReFill’s documentary folder you’ll find proof of this.

The sound-set is organized and split into three tempos and keys. Tempo 100BPM contains 123 wav samples in G key, tempo 110BPM contains 160 wav samples in E key and tempo 120BPM – 148 samples in A# key. A fresh library based on the Interactive Phase Distortion principle. The Casio VZ10m and the German Hohner HS2/E are the last hardware synths featuring iPD. The iPD synthesis was meant as an effort to simplify sound programming because its results are easier to predict when comparing to FM synthesis. IPD is capable of producing bright and lively tunes with sharp attacks and digital precision. The Library contains 30 instruments featuring “filter-less” and “non-substractive” sounds that stand out thru their rich harmonic content and agile brightness. Each instrument is based on its unique set of velocity-layered multi-samples.

Polite 800 introduces another famous eighties synthesizer: the Korg Poly 800. This little leight-weight plastic thing was meant to be a performance synthesizer because it can run on batteries, has guitar strap pegs and inverted key colors. On the other hand programming this thing isn´t really a performance because like the majority of the budget synths of this time the Poly 800 has to be conquered with nothing more than a number block plus an increase and decrease button. The Universal Pack contains 32 multi-sample patches that load into numerous software samplers like Kontakt (NI), NN-XT (Reason). EXS 24 (Logic), Directwave (IL) as well as each other software sampler that supports the Cakewalk sfz format.

The Cimbalom is a chordophone composed of a trapezoidal box with metal strings stretched across its top. It is commonly found throughout the Balkan states and in 1890 it was proclaimed the national instrument of Hungary. The instrument sampled for this library is a chromatic Schunda model from Budapest. The Live Pack includes two fully sampled versions and 12 useful adaptions that take the sound far beyond the original instrument.

A really rotten upright piano, totally out of tune, with all the keys disappeared. But the chassis was still complete and made such a fantastic reverb, it seemed to be everlasting. Slapping the lowest string it took almost three minutes until the sound had gone. With Volume 1 you get the original piano sound picked up at two distances plus five other sound sets using different prepared piano techniques. The audio demos are made without additional reverb.
