The world’s first MIDI guitar, the Casio Digital Guitar – hacked and circuit bent by PMG – can now be part of your studio. Dig into the sound bank of the DG series and crank up your session with one of the stranger musical inventions of the ‘80s. Music tech of the ’80s runs the gamut from revolutionary digital synthesis to more experimental endeavors. The Casio Digital Guitar falls into the latter category and, although an oddball of music inventions we thought it cool and unique enough to create a sound pack. The Casio Digital Guitar is a stringed guitar which translates the performance to the onboard computer and plays back the selected sound. Puremagnetik sampled all of the on-board sounds and also took the Digital Guitar’s resources a step further by circuit-bending the device for more glitch-tastic programs. Puremagnetik created some feedback loops, tweaked with the clock and injected voltage in places it shouldn’t be!
Captured entirely from an original General Instruments AY-3-8910 three-voice programmable sound generator, PM-8910 is packed full of goodies for old-school gaming and chip sound enthusiasts. The AY-3-8910 and its variants became popular chips in many arcade games, and were used on, among others, the Intellivision and Vectrex video game consoles, Amstrad CPC, Oric 1, Colour Genie, Elektor TV Games Computer and Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128/+2/+3 home computers as well as the Mockingboard and Cricket sound cards for the Apple II family. PM-8910 is the perfect companion and addition to PMG constantly growing arsenal of retro computer sounds and has been programmed as an Ableton Live Pack, Kontakt Instrument and Logic Library.

Now, PMG has harnessed the inner workings of this synth, extracted some of the best sounds and wrapped them up in over 30 patches optimized for Ableton Live, Kontakt and Logic Pro. Used by Squarepusher, Jimmy Edgar, Future Sound of London and more, the TX81Z’s signature sound has spanned across multiple decades and is just as relevant today as it was at its inception. The TX81Z was an FM synthesizer from Yamaha that was housed in compact, multitimbral, 1-unit rackmount module. It features great FM type synth sounds similar also to the DX-21 and DX-27.
