The Bandoneón is a type of concertina popular in Argentina and Uruguay.It plays an essential role in the orquesta típica, the tango orchestra.This particular Bandoneón was recorded in Buenos Aires, Argentina by the renowned composer Guillermo Guareschi. It is a “Premier” Bandoneón with a sweet and expressive sound. One Neumann microphone was in charge of register for the left hand where all the bass notes are generated plus an additional ribbon microphone that handled the very low frequencies with precision. The right hand was captured by a modified SE A5600 II tube microphone and an AKG mic was set to record the natural high roof ambience of the recording studio. All the microphones were connected to vintage Telefunken preamplifiers that delivered the signal directly without any console or black box in the chain. The recordings were all made at 24 bits 48Khz.

Mr. Sax T. employs an entirely new technology, developed by Stefano Lucato when it became clear that all the previously applied approaches simply could not do. The technical name is Synchronous Wave Triggering. It uses samples as a base material, chromatically performed by a professional sax player over a very wide dynamic range, and recorded with state-of-the-art technology. The resulting timbre is therefore that of the real instrument. But the analogy with a sample based library ends here. The underlying, proprietary technology allows continuous interpolation among different vectors like time, dynamics, pitch and formants.

This is a truly unique release – we took a tiny little drum machine (with a big sound), sequenced it with FX and looped the results through a Roland Scooper, where the sounds were live-warped, bit crushed, reversed, pitched, re-quantized and filtered. All of this was captured on 1/4″ tape and transformed into a killer library of modern & weird (but highly useable) sounds and instruments. The result: clubby kicks, modern claps, punchy snaps, cosmic toms, synthy hi hats, Villalobos-style perc and tons of wonky FX hit.
