    This is the second offering in our interactive sample library ‘World Percussion Soundtrack,’ and features a diverse collection of expertly played and recorded percussion loops and samples, presented in a custom Kontakt sampler instrument. The sample pack draws on various influences from around the world, combining contemporary music styles and instruments with more traditional ethnic percussion styles. This creates an extremely useable set of percussion samples, perfect for film, tv and popular music production alike. The sample library contains a full on board mixer, allowing custom mixes to be created from the individual percussion samples to suit the composition. The various on board effects and dynamic processors allow for intuitive control and tonal changes, and the simple layout allows the percussion loops and samples to easily be played as full loops, or broken down into individual stems.

    The ebow ( Energy bow), is a small, hand held device that ‘bows’ the strings of a guitar using an electromagnetic field. It produces a unique guitar sound, with a very slow attack and infinite sustain. To play the ebow, the guitarist holds it over the string, near the pickup or hole, so that the string sits in a small notch on the underside of the eBow. The eBow’s magnets then cause the string to vibrate until it feeds back on itself at its own resonant frequency. This feedback loop is very similar to the well-known amplifier feedback, but a much more controllable version. The player can vary the loudness of the sound by moving closer or further away from the string, as with amplifier feedback. The ebow is switchable from low power mode to high power mode, which gives a strong, harmonically rich sound.

This enables the user to be able to place the instrument easily within mixes of different genres and styles. It can be a more intimate instrument or huge and roomy depending on what is required. The TIMPHONIA recordings were performed by New Zealand drum and Timpani maestro Riki Gooch.  Riki is New Zealand’s most in demand drummer, producer and all round musical phenomenon.

    The Strained Wire + Garotte was created using 4 metre lengths of wire and nylon line trimmer stretched tightly over a bridge and sound board. This was struck, picked, hit with a mallet, bowed and generally tortured. A tuning turnbuckle was incorporated to allow tuning of the instrument. The strained wire was then recorded using contact and stereo microphones.
