The organ used for this project is a Hammond L100 with a great Leslie. For a full sound the keyboard was sampled with all the bars at maximum level and the microphones not to close to the cabinet to get some air into the sound. Both speeds of the Leslie were recorded. You can almost smell the engines at work…
Reed Organ is a M-S Stereo 24 bit – 96KHz recording of an old swedish reed organ by J.Eriksson. Actually, it was the brand of choice for the Swedish king Oscar II. It was carefully restored and recorded note by note. The aim here was to capture the sound of old times; organic breathing tones and noises that fit well in film music, indie etc. Please note that the pedal noise is always present in the sound as the organ needs air to produce sound from the pipes. It works almost like an accordion.
The inspiration came from retro recordings of classical music, pop-acts using both the Chamberlin and the Mellotron and of course new-age artists such as Ralph Lundsten and Tangerine Dream. I call it “Fairytale flute” simply because I searched for that beautiful and perhaps otherworldly flute sound I heard so many times but with an added layer of realism compared to at least the Chamberlin and Mellotron sounds. It stays within the sound frame of a retro style flute recording with the addition of todays creative sound design. This instrument is not meant to cover the whole range of retro flute sounds such as overblown, bended, tremolo, noise-making etc.

Sawmill is an instrument inspired by the supersaw sound. In a broad sense, it doesn’t try to emulate the classic supersaw sound but I think it’s interesting how layering detuned saw oscillators turns a static sound into a moving texture. I have been wondering how would it sound if you detuned other parameters, not just pitch. For example, you could also detune filters, LFO frequency, effects etc… Welcome to Sawmill, where you can detune everything, on every oscillator. There are seven oscillators and it is quite like having a stack of seven synthesizers, with controllers conveniently grouped by type. So if you want tune a filter cutoff you have a row of seven knobs to deal with. It makes it easy to experiment with oscillator layering.
