Vintage Cinema, a new collection of original classic movie soundtracks and scores for hip hop producers in search of the best royalty-free samples available within the online sample domain. Circa 1970s, an era when some of the best-produced soundtracks were released on film that later became a widely sourced medium for sampling Hip Hop beats. This collection contains a series of 30 stereo-mixed compositions that were inspired by the distinct sounds and moods of underground film scenes played in suspenseful, soulful and down-tempo themes. The instrument sounds recorded vary from orchestral strings and horns, guitar, bass/upright, rhodes, whurlitzer, organs and harpsichord to name a few. And to top it off, each recording was mixed and mastered using vintage tube compressors with added tape emulation for more grittiness and vinyl sound.

This installment features legendary film composer Richard Gibbs. Richard started scoring surf films as a kid, and then became a touring musician with Chaka Khan and Tom Jones. He has been a session musician on over 150 albums, for artists such as Aretha Franklin, Tom Waits, and Robert Palmer, and was a member of Oingo Boingo. He has since returned to his first love, scoring film, and works on several projects a year. His credits include Say Anything, The Simpsons, and the reboot of Battlestar Galatica. In this interview, Bobby and Richard chat about Richard’s career, influences, and inspirations.
