The African Marimba and Udu is a collection of sampled African instruments recorded at the world famous MGM Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles. The African Marimba contains mallet and stick hits recorded at varying dynamics with up to 5 round robins. This instrument features a new SOFT ATTACK slider that softens the onset of each note. The African Marimba also features a roll generator similar to that in the Dulcimer and Zither library. When the mod wheel is set to a value higher than 0, the patch plays a roll with dynamics controlled by the modwheel. This can be combined with the SOFT ATTACK feature to create interesting textures and pads.
The Marimba is a relative of the xylophone, distinct for its large, typically semi-tubular resonators found underneath the keys, and larger range than its smaller counterpart. Its history is complex, having early origins in Africa and Central America, but it found a prominent home in the halls of America’s Vaudeville at the start of the 20th Century. The marimba is unique from many modern instruments in that its playing style is still evolving quite rapidly, with new applications and playing techniques coming forth every few years.

These orchestral samples are from the orchestra pit of the renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The natural hall ambience adds a charming realism, missing from common orchestral perc samples. Simple Piano is a section with multiple preset choices such as Pianissimo Only, FF Only etc. and an experimental music Prepared Piano for all of you John Cage fans. All these extra presets and instrument choices make this collection truly versatile and user friendly for the accomplished pianist or sequencing musician.
Glass Marimba is a custom instrument – and a modification of the classic marimba. The main difference is that classic the wooden bars have been replaced with glass bars. The bars are struck with mallets to produce musical tones. ally. This instrument is a type of xylophone, but with broader/warmer and lower tonal range. The origin of the marimba goes back Guatamala and Mayan culture and is not of African decent – though it sounds like it.
This Marimba has all notes (A1-C6) sampled in stereo. No less then 8 velocities/note makes this Marimba one of the largest sampled marimbas on the market today. Played using hard, medium and soft mallets.
