Ambient Black is the second of a linked pair of sound design-based virtual instruments designed to provide composers and producers with a collection of original instruments and textures suitable for all sorts of ambient music. As its name implies, Ambient Black covers the darker end of the ambient spectrum, focusing on harsh, aggressive, atonal, mysterious, and industrial sounds. Ambient White, the first VI in this series, covers the opposite end of the ambient spectrum. The majority of sounds used in the creation of Ambient Black were derived from organic sources: found sounds and audio recordings subjected to extreme sound design techniques, prepared and heavily processed musical instruments, and sounds recorded in natural environments. The synth sounds were also processed with sound design techniques, and combined with various organic sounds and instruments. The end result is a product that combines acoustic, human, industrial, and electronic elements to produce an organic-sounding virtual instrument.
Featuring Nashville’s finest string players at Ocean Way Studios — a world class scoring environment — we dedicated over two years to capturing the expressive performances of the incredible musicians we worked with. Using performance-based sampling techniques, we were able to preserve the subtle details and expressiveness found in real live recordings, all while maintaining the sense of depth found in the room. Every note was analyzed in real time during the sessions to make sure we maintained timbrel consistency. All of the short articulations were sourced from repetition-based performances to maximize fluidity and connectivity. Legato transitions were sampled from musical phrases to translate a level of expression resembling that of a real piece of music. Every aspect of this library was treated with utmost attention to detail and the results are unparalleled.

ALT PIANO is the complete and unabridged big sister to our infamous Upright Felt Piano. We recorded an old, humble and character-filled upright piano from the 60s, with and without felt making this a piano with two very different characters. Soft and beautiful or bright and lively, or blend between the recordings to achieve a tone unlike anything else. We also re-recorded the piano samples in three distinctly different and unique ways to create a series of textural sound layers, which can be mixed with the natural piano or used on their own. With dozens of other unique and interesting controls, you can create a very diverse range of sounds all from just one instrument.
