FELT 54 is an intimate felt piano with character, it’s not the conventional bright and harmonically complex upright piano. Stereo sampled from a felt customized upright Yamaha U3 1975 that has been modified in a way that makes the tone more pure, yet preserves its harmonic richness. A 0.8mm felt strip was added between the hammers and strings, and the middle section’s tone of the piano was simplified by muting 2 out of 3 strings per note. FELT 54 is ideal for Ambient music and Melancholic film scores, as well as LO-FI hip-hop music with the Tape settings driven up.

With a robust and mighty sound, it’s a much more elaborate and powerful instrument than you’d typically expect to find in a smaller rural church like this one, allowing the sound to completely fill the space with an epic presence and grand tonal body. However, that all might be explained by the fact that the Schantz workshop is just a mile up the road in the same small town.

The library contains two core type of phrase-based patches divided into a Yin and Yang category. The Yin category is softer, lighter, more airy and heavenly – whereas the Yang category is harder, darker, more distorted and punchy. We are excited to present our new Book Series product: Chalumeau, with True Legato articulation and a unique warm and folk tone. “The chalumeau is a single-reed woodwind instrument of the late baroque and early classical eras. The chalumeau is a folk instrument that is the predecessor to the modern-day clarinet.” The instrument we used was handmade by the great artisan and flute maker Max Brumerg with Cherry Tree Wood. We sampled Vibrato and Non Vibrato Legato, Staccato and more than 50 phrases.
