The Mongolian Vibe from the Steppes MaTouQin (horse-headed fiddle, aka morin khuur), as one of the precious legacies of the Mongolian people, has been heartily embraced by Chinese musicians today as a vital musical element. Its unique sound character complements other classical Chinese instruments in a way like no others. MaTouQin is believed to be originated from the nomadic people during the Tang Dynasty (7th – 10th centuries), and became widely known circa Genghis Khan’s reign. Nowadays, like many other Mongolian legacies, Matouqin has become a valuable part of Chinese culture. Besides the horse-headed pegbox, MaTouQin is very recognizable for its unusual playing techniques and styles. Our production approached MaTouQin in pursuit of the indigenous flavour instead of the more Westernized style, and by delivering that flavour, all the composers and musicians now have a chance to explore and express in the most authentic and original Mongolian flavour easily.

Luke welcomes you to the series, and then gets started by demonstrating a variety of stacking techniques that include stacking multiple layers, using unorthodox drum selections within your instrument stacks, and using the Tuning and Pitch FX parameters to alter the sound of your layered drums in creative ways. Next, Luke shows you how to easily create hybrid drum configurations and Mixer FX chains for custom kit creation, as well as how to load drums from another expansion library and apply the Superior Drummer 3 core library mixer presets to those sounds. He then shows you how to load Superior Drummer 3 core library sounds into an expansion library and apply the mixer presets from that expansion library for new completely new sound design options.

If you work with audio, you’ll eventually need a good compressor in your toolbox. Korvpressor* is an adaptive compressor / limiter that’s usable in many different ways. It has a super-simple UI, a whole new ”physical” take on how to tame and visualize a compressor. The controls are minimal – set the input gain, level of compression, and the output gain. However, don’t be mislead by this simplicity. Under the hood is a sophisticated set of algorithms, developed together with a team from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
