AMIGA SOUND MACHINE

Crouching Fingers is a sample library with KONTAKT instruments inspired from 80 & 90ies Martial Arts games and films. Inspired by combat sounds from iconic vintage game consoles, DX7, C64, Juno60 and Amiga. These are dangerous KONTAKT instruments. Sounds were recorded onto VHS tapes with different input-levels. And recorded back to DAW, before mapping to KONTAKT. Are your chops ready to meet the challenge? The brutal world of The Crouching Fingers awaits. We took inspiration from the fighter films & Amiga games we’ve grown up with. Mashed it together, and created library with a deadly punch. With some help from an Amiga, a JUNO-60, a DX7, some empty cassettes and a VHS tapemachine.

A library of playable two-note slurs for creating expressive string textures. Play overlapping pairs of notes within a perfect 4th of each other to trigger the two-note slurs, or “ripples”. On string instruments, there’s a kind of energy and life you can put into the sound as you travel between two notes, especially if you play them in a single bow stroke. You can lean into the first note expressively, and then let the second note fold into the release of the first note so that they sound like one gesture. If these notes were recorded separately, then stitched together later, it wouldn’t have the same nuance. It’s gratifying to play these two-note slurs across different dynamics. To capture this feeling, the samples are all recorded as swells. At the beginning of the swell, the second note can be played so lightly that the pitch is hardly perceptible. It’s like a ghost note. Then, as the sound grows, the slurs naturally change and adapt to keep it fresh.

Every note pulsates with vibrations and beautiful timbral imperfections, capturing the essence of lo fidelity cherished by hip hop enthusiasts and coffee shop intellectuals. We carved pianos through a variety of analog mediums, including cassettes, tape loops, and serially connected tape echo machines. Within the KONTAKT UI you may mix these together with vinyl textures, scratches, dust, wows, flutter and other artefacts. The fluttering, expressive, and nostalgic pianos within “Vinyl Piano” are designed to inspire and add character.

The Silk Rhodes is a recorded 1975 Rhodes Mark1 captured with a boutique vintage signal chain. It was outfitted with per-tonebar piezo pickups to allow for a fuller sound. And the sounds were triggered by us plucking, bowing or hitting the tines inside the rhodes.
