Contemporary Soloists – Viola is the third instalment in our new range of instruments for Kontakt. Featuring unique and contemporary orchestral viola textures performed by legendary violist, Bruce White, It is full of soul, emotion and raw character. Designed to fill a gap in the virtual viola market, this library has a wonderfully compelling and intimate sound which is perfect for capturing a modern cinematic sound world which can be heard in scores by the likes of Jed Kurzel, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Our custom user interface was carefully designed to be both intuitive and inspiring, allowing you to warp and shape your sound with filters, reverbs, distortion and much more.

Back in June this year a very special guest came to Bristol to give a long awaited talk… Matt Quinn, also known as the mighty Optical – one of the most respected audio engineers in electronic music, full stop. With his work ranging from breaking new ground via his LP with Ed Rush -‘Wormhole’ to engineering and composing for Goldie’s ‘Saturnz Return’ and also co-writing the Album ‘Mysteries of Funk’ with Grooverider. The alluring aspect of his style is that his engineering skills are equally matched by his sense of artistry, seamlessly woven together to give the distinct, precise and vibrant sound that his music is know for – the world over. In this masterclass Optical looks at all angles of his production skills, and uses two tracks (forthcoming from the new Ed Rush & Optical LP) to demonstrate this, as well as a world exclusive dub he had been working on just for the seminar. Woodchester Piano A beautifully expressive felted upright piano, recorded in a dry and intimate space to capture every nuance and detail — crafted in collaboration with composer James Everingham. Woodchester Piano is the debut release in our Signature Collection, a series of libraries created in collaboration with composers and musicians, each focusing on a distinct set of sounds from their palettes. This piano belongs to James Everingham, who played a key role in shaping the library into a key ingredient of his composing template. Every detail has been meticulously captured, from the softest dynamics to hammer and key noises, even down to the intimate creaks of the piano player, all of which can be controlled directly from the interface. Complementing these detailed controls are 11 Atmosphere Layers, designed by the Fracture Sounds team. These layers, crafted from processed raw samples and beyond, elevate the library into an inspiring and immersive instrument, an essential starting point for any composer or songwriter.

Glacier Keys A distinctive sound, made possible by sampling. Glacier Keys delivers rich piano harmonics performed on a Steinway D, creating a shimmering, glass-like timbre that is entirely unique. A harmonic is created by gently touching a string in just the right place to mute the fundamental tone and allow the harmonic, an octave above, to resonate. Glacier Keys takes this concept, typically found in string libraries, and applies it to the Steinway Model D concert grand piano. Through the act of sampling this technique in detail, Glacier Keys allows you to perform harmonics as easily as you would a regular piano – something which would be impractical, if not impossible, to achieve in a live recording. This piano feels natural to play while delivering a glass-like timbre that’s truly unique. Along with these distinct raw sounds, Glacier Keys includes 11 Atmosphere Layers and a variety of microphone positions, offering quick ways to alter the piano’s perspective and tone. These features are explored through 11 snapshots curated by the Fracture Sounds team, providing a one-of-a-kind addition to any score.

The FUNKY ELEMENTS download includes both the original ‘The Funky Element’ and ‘Mo Funky Elements’ sample libraries, which we first released as Sample CDs way back in 1991. This classic Funk/HipHop sample collection was one of the world’s very first sample libraries ever produced! It set a world standard for genuine-article funk sounds, and is still regarded by many as the perfect tool for throwing down a retro funky jam. This download in WAV and Kontakt format was created by converting all the data from the original Akai CD-ROM version of Funky Elements.
