Monopolyphonix was in many ways a celebration of another successful resurrection of an old classic saved from the grave. Much like the Minimoog, ARP Omni-2 and Novachord left their sonic fingerprints on S-VX and The Orbitone Collection, a recently restored Farfisa Syntorchestra manufactured in 1974, gave its all to the creation of Monopolyphonix… Why the name? Well the Syntorchestra comes from a strange era quite early on in the history of affordable portable synthesizers where manufacturers were quite experimental and tended to do their own thing. This was especially the case with early polyphonics. The net result is that weird and wacky user interfaces and synth architectures were quite the norm in those days!

Moog, Synthesizers.com, Curetronic, Metasonix, Vermona,… all those big names were put together to show what analog Clicks and Cuts are made of! After recording the sounds were mapped in an extended way (88 keys per kit) to provide not only the samples themself but also reversed and tonal sounds, made by looping and editing.

The mixture of black and white music created a whole new genre characterized by fat rock sound, tricky beats, funky guitar licks, virtuosic keyboards and pulsating basslines: 70s Funk Rock – pure energy! Back in the 70s, Funk doubtlessly offered the best groove while Rock featured the best sound. Drummers added syncopations to their grooves while a heavy dotted bass kept the foundation. Keyboarders were finally able to prove their abilities outside the typical jazz combo, changing their play during the song using Hammonds, Clavinets and Minimoogs. Ueberschall‘s 70s Funk Rock combines the energy-filled mixture of this creative era with the endless possibilities of modern music production.
