Sho, the fourth release in the Virtuoso Japanese Series, is now available as a software instrument in Kontakt format. The sho is free reed musical instrument and one of the three primary woodwind instruments used in gagaku court orchestra music. Consisting of 17 slender bamboo pipes, it is sometimes said to resemble a resting phoenix because of its shape. In antiquity, the sho’s fluid tonal character was associated with light shining down from the heavens.
With 30 alternate samples per key, this is one of our very detailed scripted basses. And the best part is of course the sound of this “Leo’s” legend. The Jazz Bass differs from the Precision Bass mainly in the electrical equipment, a narrower neck and the more asymmetrical shape of the body. In our recording session We used our vintage RFT 4053 Tube Mic-Pre/DI from the good old 60s. This VINTAGE BASS is an all-purpose weapon, so it is also very suitable for modern music styles. So we recorded this “gem of a bass” and cleverly scripted it into a perfect bass library. The real strength of this bass guitar lies in its playability. No machine-gun effect thanks to Multi-Round-Robin. The Analog taste gives the bass character and the flavor it needs for a realistic performance of a bass guitar. Parker Oboe is a true legato oboe library performed by Dr. A. Parker, Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Texas. Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, Texas, our goal was to create a responsive, agile instrument that could handle a variety of exciting orchestral contexts without any keyswitching. The Workhorse patch is the all-rounder; performed with a confident mezzo-forte dynamic. Fat Lead is Andrew playing the oboe at full chat — great when you need bite, attitude and soaring melodies. Emotional offers a lyrical performance at mezzo-piano while Delicate explores the very soft, ethereal side of the instrument. We’ve also captured a variety of inhale breaths with subsequent “pre-attack” air/tonguing noises — really helps sell the performance when peppered in before/in-between phrases.
Cello Ibrida contains different types of sampling and sound design techniques inside one advanced GUI. The concept relies on not focusing on a single traditional library concept but several that when combined will bring out modern sounds that retain an organic sound. A cello section was recorded to do “texture” articulations and multisample. From there we edited and processed a variety of sound design style patches to create low pulses, hybrid plucks, pads and sfx. Our matrix GUI contains a two layer system each with its own effects chain, LFOs, Sequencer and gate. But the magic happens in the performance matrix page where two macros, two envelope sequencers and velocity source modulators can be individually assigned to different master effects, chord maker and a detuner. This enables even the simplest of sounds to be continuously modulated and ever changing. Additionally, we added CC assignable inputs for crossfade, macro1/2 and LFO rate/amount to let composers modulate all these parameters in real time and thus, creating a great performance sound design instrument.

About the guitar and the playing technique; We used our Vintage 65 Fender, Precision Bass, with foam under the bridge with flat-wound strings and played just with the index finger just like James Jamerson did!
