Classic Rock EBX is an extension to EZbass that features carefully recorded 1960s bass. This bass, selected for its optimal quality, embodies all the wants and needs that you would look for in a rock instrument’s workhorse: low frequencies, high harmonics and that bright and distinct sustain that permeates any mix. Simply put, it’s the bass that oozes rock when you hit one note. Aside from the actual instrument, the EBX also includes a broad selection of presets for all tools and striking options as well as a custom collection of MIDI, making this much more than just a bass sample library – it’s a well of ideas and a true toolbox of sound. If there was a time when the bass truly stepped out of the shadow of the drums and took center stage, it was during the golden days of disco. Even though the jumpsuits, platform shoes and flared pants may be a thing of that 1970s era, disco has never been more now than it was back then. It may have taken on more of a pop suit, but listen to the likes of Dua Lipa, Daft Punk or Bruno Mars and you’ll hear it. In the forefront of that sound is a classic bass belting out a juicy double-note-infused and octave-ridden disco groove. For this EBX, we went out of our way to find the ultimate instrument that could bridge that gap between classic and modern – one that had all the vintage traits but also enough girth to stand its ground in a modern pop production. We found it. At that, it’s not just any bass, it’s one of the 356 ever built Hagström* Super Swedes. Co-designed by the late Rutger Gunnarsson of ABBA fame, this is a bona fide disco bass icon just like the very man who once played it.
For the past few decades and counting, the progressive movement has been one of the most vocal and constantly evolving midpoints in the metal scene. From the trailblazing likes of Queensrÿche, Savatage and Fates Warning, on through the melodic mastery of Dream Theater, the ingenuity of Tool, the completely genre-overthrowing sound of Meshuggah to where it is today, with its mural of niched offshoots, it’s kept its foothold firmly in its roots but continued to thrive at what is inherent in every fiber of its being: to progress. With this EBX for EZbass, we’re proud to deliver what we believe is the epitome of an instrument to meet those criteria – a six-string bass that musters the entire width from subtle expressiveness and articulation to raw, progressive power. In addition to the sounds, this EBX also comes with a MIDI library of riff-driven grooves unique to the product as well as a broad collection of presets for a wide range of tones, allowing you to get started writing and producing right off the bat.
At first glance, no one would have thought that removing the seemingly insignificant metal rods separating the notes on the bass guitar fretboard would open up a whole new harmonic panorama and turn it into an almost completely new instrument. But it really is. Sublime and high-pitched violin character, almost weightless glissando, rich, full and hearty sustain and incredibly unique overall expressiveness are qualities that make it impossible to confuse it with traditional bass. It is produced by a subtle vibrato or just a beat of one note. The Fretless EBX comes with a carefully selected instrument sampled with maximum detail to capture all of these unique characteristics. Besides sounds, it also includes a wide selection of presets, as well as customizable MIDI content tailored for fretless playing styles.
