1979 Crumar General Development System, GDS Shimmers

GDS Shimmers was the first patch programmed in the voice editor when the full system was returned to working order for the first time in many years during major restoration in late 2014. It is one of only three known working examples in the world. As a souvenir of this special event, the sound was captured and faithfully multi-sampled in Kontakt. The GDS was a derivative of the Bell Labs Alles Machine and was the groundbreaking 32 oscillator digital synthesizer to directly form the basis of the DK Synergy.

Reflection is an inspiring Cinematic Sample library and toolkit for composing Soundtracks and trailers. Perfect for anything from a subtle underscore to driving action and a whole let more. It contains 435 presets with everything from Evolving Soundscapes & Distorted ambience, to Lush Pad & complex Rhythms. It has a highly flexible interface with a multitude of tools for designing your own sounds, rhythms and arpeggiations. The tools include various envelopes to shape the sound, insert and send effects, sequencers and LFO’s to create tempo synced rhythms and an arpeggiator with powerful randomisation features. In addition, up to 3 samples can be layered and mixed either using the included samples or importing your own. Each layer can have separate Amp, Pitch and Filter Envelopes, as well as adjustment of the Sample start position. From version 1.6 you can now have separate LFO’s and filter sequences for each layer as well as adjusting the level of send effect per layer. For 1.7, you can even choose from 6 different filter types.

Mark I (1975) For KONTAKT

An authentic recreation of this most sought-after classic electro-mechanical piano. The electro-mechanical piano, upon which this sample-set is based, was manufactured in 1975, a year considered by many to be the golden era for this instrument. It featured the coveted Torrington tines. Sampled at 19 velocity levels recorded for the full duration, so you will hear neither loops nor artificial envelope decays. Nearly every note of the piano was sampled and eight velocity layers of note-off release samples are included. The instrument uses 69MB of RAM and requires 930MB of free disk space. You will find a three-band equalizer, volume for the release samples and a velocity curve dialog box which allows the user to adjust the instrument to respond to touch. In addition, each has controls for the stereo vibrato, phaser and reverb effects. Finally, a number of amp simulations are provided.

The Model 7 grand piano was sampled from a Yamaha C7 grand coda piano. Our first idea was to sample a CFIII, but when we went to the rental-house we totally fell in love with this one and chose it. This particular piano has been in constant use since the ’80s in two highly praised concert halls in Torino (Italy) and has been played by artists like Michel Petrucciani and Chick Corea along the years. This piano is under constant maintenance by highly-skilled italian technicians. We sampled this little-big monster of a piano in a medium-size hall surrounded by a smorgasbord of microphones.

The EK470 mark2 is a lucky bag. Although its sound source is a low-cost, garbage toy keyboard for just 25 EUR, all the sounds are incredibly warm and charming. You can lose yourself just playing along with the analog sounds, being inspired by its character and possibilities. Beside that, the graphical interface is also worth mentioned which make you turn knobs and switch buttons. Content: The structure of EK470 mark2 is based on 2 simultaneous sound slots, each can be feeded with every of the 24 sounds and has separate volume and pan knob. Beside that, the first slot provides an additional -12 to 12 semitones pitch knob. We selected the best 24 sound patches out of 99 available patches the original keyboard provides. We recorded every third minor note, looped the sound and processed it if needed.
